Why was my vehicle towed?

Your vehicle may be towed by a city marshal or sheriff after it has been booted for having more than $350 in parking ticket or camera violations that are in judgment. Your vehicle can also be towed by the NYPD at any time if you are parked illegally or do not have valid registration or insurance.

Can I remove personal property from my vehicle?

If you want to remove personal property from a vehicle, like luggage or a baby car seat, you can request a property release from the DMV. However, you cannot remove parts of the vehicle like tires, radios, or batteries. If you're not the owner of the vehicle, you must bring a notarized letter from the owner allowing you to remove the property. If the vehicle belongs to a firm or business, you must also show proof of employment.

What are the fees associated with towing?

Booting and towing fees include: Tow fees: regular $185, or heavy duty $370 Boot fee: $185 Sheriff or marshal execution fee: $80 Poundage fee: 5% of all fines, including penalties and interest Overnight storage fee: $20 (If the vehicle is not redeemed on the same day that it was towed, an additional overnight storage charge of $20 will be charged each night the vehicle is held.)
